Young People's Mental Health Programme

Although Community Connections has been involved in the development of local youth initiatives in previous years, this is the first time the project has identified a specific issue relating to young people on which to work.  It has been identified through local consultation and through formal research carried out in the area.  A ‘gap’ was also identified due to ‘The Melvin Project’ – a cross-border mental health pilot project partnering the Sperrin and Lakeland Health Trust and the North Western Health Board – not continuing after its pilot phase in 2001.  The project wishes to engage in this piece of work to generally promote positive mental health amongst local young people, and to provide practical assistance to young people encountering mental health difficulties.

Aim - to promote the mental health and social well-being of young people aged 15-30 in North Leitrim, West Cavan and West Fermanagh and to aid the enhancement of supports and services available to young people who are encountering mental health difficulties.
