Older People's Programme

The Older People’s Programme has grown steadily since the early 1990s and the now well established Active Age Project continues to develop and expand with some 200 older people currently actively involved in the groups each week.  Groups have been established in Tullaghan, Rossinver, Kiltyclogher, Glenfarne, Dowra, Manorhamilton, Dromahair, Drumkeerin and Glencar.  The planned expansion of the Older People’s Programme to include work in day hospitals, nursing homes, with socially and geographically isolated older people living in the community and the development of The ‘Wee Jobs’ Initiative ( a small jobs maintenence project) is somewhat dependent on securing additional funds for these areas of work, however, progress can be made to a certain degree in these areas of work within existing resources.

Aim – To encourage a sense of independence and self-help among older people and the continual development of their talents and abilities; to work with more vulnerable and geographically isolated older people to promote their well-being, promote their involvement in social and community activities and further develop the services and supports available to them by working with and influencing organisations and agencies responsible for older people.
