Advice and Support for Community Groups, Development Associations and Community Networks.Text Box: 130 older people from the local area attending the ‘Building Healthy Communities’ conference in Dromahair, Co. Leitrim in 2004 as part of a year-long programme.  The programme included cross-border visits to ‘Healthy Living’ projects in Northern Ireland and discussion workshops exploring issues of changing life circumstances, loss and bereavement, elder abuse and the relationship between poverty and health.

Community Connections has worked with a number of community groups, particularly those who are focused on anti-poverty and social inclusion activities.  The project will continue this work which combines a mix of work supporting groups through a key stage of development or in supporting groups by one-off advice sessions or directing groups to other organisation for support in the provision of information on a particular subject.  The project will also engage in smaller pieces of work looking at longer term development for local groups to link with European Programmes and the development of Broadband infrastructure for community activities. Community Connections will also be seeking to continue a sense of ongoing consultation between the project and community groups and organisations on its work and developing practical ways of making this more tangible.  One way in which this will be done by holding consultative style seminars on issue based work being carried out by the project.  The project will be involved in researching new and innovative ways of tackling poverty and disadvantage.
